What can I do to get my sound working again?

I think I may have a virus (As I have a laptop and my computer is telling me that everything is "fuctioning propperly), but I have used both McAffee and Avast to scan the computer. During an Avast boot scan, it came up with two curropt files in my temporary internet folder- I deleted them.

Spyboy search and destroy also came up with something, it was blackhole or blackcore or something like that.

How can I find and remove this virus to get my sound working again? I recently installed some updates, but I don't know if they'd be the cause. Anything will help! If you need more information, please email me (bunny_usagi_bunny@yahoo.com)

Thanks for any help!

What can I do to get my sound working again?product key

I do not know if this will help or not but, recently the sound quit working on my computer. It is a fairly new Dell. I called Dell and they troubleshot my computer. We tried several thing and nothing worked. Then we discovered while checking something that somehow the sound had been turned off in the computer. I turned it back on and it has been working ever since. Have no idea how it turned off.

Hope it turns out to be that simple. Check my computer or control panel and make sure the sound is still on.

Good luck!!

I Can't remove Backdoor.Trojan and FakerAlert from computer?

On my computer, I have Spybot S%26D and Avast! Antivirus. Both programs are constantly updated along side Windows Update. I also have Norton Spyware Scan on my Yahoo toolbar as well. Norton Spyware Scan keeps finding Backdoor.Trojan and FakerAlert on my computer. Both Spybot and Avast dont find anything at all. So my question is why is the Trojan and FakerAlert keep coming back to my computer and how is it possible I can remove them FOR GOOD? I'd also like to point out that, I've looked up of how to remove them and I haven't had a straight answer as how to do so.

I Can't remove Backdoor.Trojan and FakerAlert from computer?security

I will research that Trojan for you because I currently have no idea what it is. In a few Min's I will update my answer but it still might not be of help to you.

Sometimes worms or Trojans can implant viruses/Trojans on your PC so if you remove the virus/Trojan the worm/Trojan can add it back again. Also some viruses come Thur the shared folder from an other PC if you have it setup like that.

Edited--- Just realized you do not know the name of the Trojan it is just detecting a Trojan. Each Trojan is different so it will be very hard for me to help you. I suggest you go to the store and buy the latest version of Norton anti virus because its much better then what you got. It will run you about $80 but even if it does not fix your problem it is still worth it because it will help you with lots of stuff.

Brand new PC and Spybot locked it?

New computer. I added Ad-aware, Spy Bot, and Avast Anti Virus. Before rebooting I ran Ad-Aware %26 Spybot. Avast found 5 items. Before using Spybot I saved the settings, it found 5 items which I deleted. On my 1st reboot the machine was very slow icons appeared, with the arrow on screen, however the arrow is an egg timer on th task bar and remains that way for 10 minutes. It turns on both to an arrowhead. I click on an icon and it remains an arrowhead and an eggtimer forever. I tried starting in safe mode it will not. I tried starting in last settings that worked and I get what I first described. Conflict? or something (spybot) trying to run?

How do I get into my docs. To get back the setings possibly remove by Spybot. VERY FRUSTRATING...brand knew machine win. XP pro. and I can't get it to work?

Brand new PC and Spybot locked it?software

Help!! Super SLOW computer!?

Ok, this is gonna be long so stay with me.

Yesterday, I scanned my computer with Spyware Terminator and it detected 18 critical objects. While it was scanning, I had all programs closed and everythign was running super SLOW. I tried to remove them but Spyware Terminator told me I had to stop the System process, which I couldn't so I tried in Safe Mode and that wouldn't work. So I gave up. Now today, I turned on my computer, login screen was fine until my computer started going super slow. McAfee Privacy Service took a solid 7 minutes to pop up. Now, this is either due to Spyware/Virus or I have too many Anti Viruses on my computer (hrhr). By the way, McAfee, AVG and Avast! didn't detect what Spyware Terminator did. So if it is due to too many Anti Viruses, help me choose which to keep out of these:

-McAfee

-Avast!

-AVG

-Spyware Terminator (has virus scanner in it)

I also have a whole lot of AntiSpyware. I cleaned my comp with HiJack this and CCleaner the other day also...

Ive never heard of spyware terminator, so I don't know how safe it is. But the others are safe and work fine. Now, here are a couple things. Don't have multiple virus protections on at once. They can interfere with each other causing slow downs and other problems.

The easiest thing would be to first reinstall Avast. That will repair its ability to uninstall. If you still can't uninstall it after that, try this.

Start button, select 'Run'

Type in: msconfig ...and press Enter

On the Startup and Services tabs, uncheck anything related to Avast. Apply your changes and reboot. Avast will not start anymore and you should be able to install McAfee.

How do I get rid of Win32:LoadAdv-H [Trj] (trojan horse) on my computer!?

Every time I log on to the internet two Win32:LoadAdv-H [Trj] trojan horse always appear. Every single time I would delete them but they always return. I have also deleted some viruses with Avast and turned off system restore which by the way I cant turn back on because the virus prevents me from doing so. plus I cannot access other folders and the add/remove programs. Now when I do a full system scan with avast it finds nothing, but when logged on to the internet it alerts me of two trojan horses. My system is still not operating well! PLEASE HELP!

How do I get rid of Win32:LoadAdv-H [Trj] (trojan horse) on my computer!?spyware remover

I do hope you have at least 3 antispyware programs on your computer. If you do, make sure their all up to date and scan, clean, scan, clean, scan, clean.

I sure hope you can get that trojan horse off your computer in less than a week. Once you do the scanning with the antispyware programs, then, make sure you update your antivirus program and do a thorough scan with that.

Also, go to your antivirus website and find the add on specifically for that trojan horse virus. It will be an extra check and clean to make sure your system's completely clean.

On my computer, when I start it up, it keeps popping all these ad's. How do I delete that?

I went to run and typed "msconfig" and didn't work.

I also have Avast! home 4.6 antivirus protection.

I also have Lavasoft SE Personal- adware protection.

Is there any other free ones that can really block those annoying ads? Avast and Lavasoft doesn't do that.

thanks.

On my computer, when I start it up, it keeps popping all these ad's. How do I delete that?spyware

This is simple to fix and the others are really stupid for not telling you. Go to MajorGeeks.com and download for free: Spybot search %26 destroy. This will kill them all, and automatically move the addresses to be blocked. I have over 9000 blocked right now, so it is the best. Also if you are using AOL at times, you could download "Smartblocker" too for free at the same time your at majorGeeks.com. This is loaded on your desktop, and works automatically with Spybot at startup.

On my computer, when I start it up, it keeps popping all these ad's. How do I delete that?virus scan

I like the Yahoo! Toolbar. It includes a very effective pop-up blocker. You can download it from:

http://toolbar.yahoo.com/
If you are getting pop-ups by just turning on your computer, then you probably have some kind of adware/spyware already on your system. Make sure you are using the latest version of Adaware, and the you have the latest updates to the definitions. In addition try Spybot Search and Destroy from www.safer-networking.org. Again make sure the definitions are up to date. The previous two tools I mention won't stop popups, but they may eliminate the root cause of the popups.
It's happy to see u.
I have Norton Anti-virus and Symantec.

Did I just screw up my computer or is it a coincidence...?

that it is running super s-l-o-w, AFTER I put vrus protection on it? My trial virus protection ran out some time ago, and although my pc seemed to be working fine for the most part, I decided to download some free anti virus software. I used Avast, and it prompted me to download a registry cleaner as well, so I did.

Well...... after the registry cleaner scanned and fixed 20 errors, it asked if I wanted to purchase and I opted not to and just put the Avast on. Also I removed some of my un-used programs just to clean up my desk top a bit. Well that was a few days ago, and suddenly my pc seems to have slowed down ALOT. Web pages take forever to load. Also I can't get any videos to play for more than a few seconds. (I watch all my fav shows online at abc.com and mtv.com and such)

Anyway, what could be the problem? Could there be a problem with my internet connection or could it be from one of these AV programs I downloaded or what?

Did I just screw up my computer or is it a coincidence...?suzuki

avast is a very good a/v, that said it does use a fair amount of system resources, if your machine is quite old, i would opt for downloading avira, it is free and good, the only negative with avira is that updates are slooooooooooooooooooooooow. i would guess that you may have some spyware/adware on your system, download adaware and spybot search and destroy, they are both free and very well tested applications. stay away from reg cleaners, as some of them create more problems than they reslove. lastly ensure your old a/v is uninstalled like the first guy said. these applications and avast should get you up and running again in no time. for a firewall i would use either comodo firewall pro or zone alarm basic, they are both free and very good, i would go for comodo as it is more easily configured than zone alarm. hope this helps.

Antivirus for Linux, Installation Issues-please help!?

Our class is installing antivirus for Linux, Fedora Core 3 on 2 clients and a server. I can download and install Avast-Home Edition (Free), but when I try to run it, the only way it will work is by scanning ONLY the home directory, standard scan. If I try to scan the entire system and/or do a thorough scan, the system freezes. It will lock up the entire computer and not recognize the keyboard or mouse so the only way to shutdown is to hold the power button. Every time I reboot, Avast makes me re-insert the registration key before allowing me access to the scanner. I have already uninstalled all previous versions/downloads of antivirus as well. Please help!

Krypt is correct as you have 2 options and both will require that you have the root password for the machine. You probably do as you would have needed it to install Avast in the first place.

1. Login as root and run avast

2. Login as a normal user -%26gt; open up a terminal -%26gt; type "su -" and enter the root password. run avast from the terminal.

Note that Krypt asked to run "su" as oppose to "su -" in step 2.

"su -" will give you root's environment (path) and "su" will not.

If your computer freezes again do the following:

How do i remove Win32: Maha-I trojan??symatec

This is not a problem at all. Here's what you need to do.

1st, don't waste your time with AVG, true sword, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, superantispyware, avast, panda, kaspersky, spyware blaster, bitdefender, spyware guard, windows defender or anything of the sort. Stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they free. They are NOT good.

2nd, You need some of the best software out there. Norton Systemworks is very good. That's the only good software from Norton. I wouldn't recommend Norton Internet security, its not that great. Now the best software you should get is Webroot AntiVirus With AntiSpyware %26 Firewall, formally known as Webroot's Spysweeper with Anti-virus, this software is too good and gets better everyday. This is Elite software. It blocks over 510,000 definition threats, which contain multiple fringerprints with each(you can do the math). No other software can compete with that or come close for that matter. It catches everything: viruses, spyware, adware, malware, root kits, keyloggers, trojans, worms, and anything else. It also has active shields and a Firewall which learns from your useage. I've used them all and it is 2nd to none.

Virus/Hijacker? Help!!!!?

My computer was fine one minute and a mess the next.

1) When I try to install anything (such as avast), it won't let me. The installer opens but then closes after five seconds.

2) Internet explorer keeps shutting down from errors

3) When I right click on a link so it will open in another window, it opens a completely different link than the one I wanted.

If anyone knows of any free programs I can use or how I can fix it so I can t lea get avast to install or anything I can do, please let me know. I am desperate!

You need to go to the start menu鈥?. "my computer" add/remove hardware and see if any programs have been added that you are not aware of.

On your browser Go to tools...... internet option...... delete cookies 鈥︹€?delete files and all offline content

There's so many virus' out there, I'd copy what's vital to a disk or flash drive, and format and reinstall windows. Only way to be 100% sure.
Try to download ad-aware, install and scan in safe mode or try another choises in safe mode
This is a good example of why having proper protection in place from the start is so vitally important.

Both of these are free to use.

Fix my computer?

I have a new Compaq Evo with XP Pro. the kids picked a virus and now the computer freezes on the blue compaq screen. I tried to install avast anti virus. When I restarted my real problems began. I tried to start computer in safe mode. It freezes in the safe mode with a black screen and safe mode in the four corners. I tried to run from last known good config and it still freezes. I tried to use the recovery point but no luck. I'm emailed Avast 4 times for help and have not got even one reply back. Does anyone know of any solutions other than starting from nothing. I don't have the recovery cd to run from. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! It was only a month old and now it is useless.

Fix my computer?trojan

I'm sorry, but if you can't even boot up your computer, there is no hope. The only option you have is to reinstall your computer. There should be a disk come with your computer that can reinstall the computer. Try every disk that come with the computer.

Do you know how to reinstall? Put your Windows disk in right after the computer start to boot and select boot option to CD by pressing F8 key on keyboard (usually F8 but you should see which key to press at the bottom of your screen when the computer start up or just try to press F1 to F12 randomly) before the Windows XP screen come up. Follow the instruction on the screen.

If there is not a CD that can reinstall it, I recommend you to contact the store where you bought the computer or contact Compaq, because there should be some warranty on the computer.

How do you remove the virus Win32:Inject-BS?

How do you remove the virus Win32:Inject-BS?vincent

That would suggest that it is in the System Restore volumes. Disable System Restore, reboot, then re-enable System Restore when you log back on. Run another AVAST scan to make sure it is clean. See reference below:

Problems with System Restore

There are some problems associated with System Restore when it comes to viruses. When restore points are created they are stored in a directory that is accessible only to the System account and not to a user. This keeps the restore points safe from misuse and tampering. Unfortunately this also means that any virus scan software you may have installed can not scan the files located there as well. This causes a problem if a file that is infected with a virus gets backed up into a restore point because now the anti-virus software can not clean it. Now if you ever restore from a restore point, that file that is infected will be introduced back into your system.

Which anti virus ??help me between - trend secure or Kaspersky ?virus protection

Your computer memory is a little low. so installing antivirus like Norton, mcaffee will further slow it! This is also in the case of Kaspersky Antivirus! It will not work good with such low memory! So my option is Trend Micro Pc-cillin Antivirus or Trend Micro Pc-cillin Internet Security! which will work better!

Upgrade Your RAM to 256 atleast to yield better results!

Both Kaspersky and Trend Secure|Trend micro pc-cillin are good Antiviruses! But Kasp. has slightly better security and virus protection than Trend Micro but requires a huge amount of RAM (lesser than Norton) which trend does,nt!

You can Try AVG Antivirus or Security (Very powerful and requires very less space and memory) it's an award winning AV and really effective!

And Bitdefender ( no.1 Antivirus since 2006) but i dont like it because it block everything i want to download from net and do many other annoying things but has superb technology and 100% Effective and easy to use!

I was once told that having too many programs was like trying to escape a burning building when you have locked all the doors... its hard to get outside, (when the whole point was meant to be keeping things outside. I dont want heaps of sh*t, just something effective.

Thanks

I have removed tojan horse... now what?virus removal

Hi,

Did I answer one of your questions? I think I did.. can't remember. Anyways, here is my response:

1. Yes, don't have too many programs. Have one good virus scanner (Avast is decent), one good adware (Ad Aware is the best) and one Spyware detector (nothing like Spybot).

2. Additionally you may want to get one of these:

* You may want to get spyware blaster, which is free and immunizes your computer to a certain extent.

The trojan Win32:Kolweb-N (Trf) keeps appearing on my computer... how do I get rid of it?

I scan with Avast Anti-virus, Spybot, and Spyhunter. Avast always finds the trojan and supposedly fixes the problem... but it keeps coming back. Every time I restart the computer I get a warning about it. It does this even when I restart the computer without even going on any websites, so I know I'm not getting it from any sites, Is it just hanging around? Is something else making it come back? Please help... I've had to restore my computer TWICE in the last two months because of trojans. All of my security settings are on 'high', so I don't know why I keep getting these things!

The trojan Win32:Kolweb-N (Trf) keeps appearing on my computer... how do I get rid of it?virus scan

Try the following

Turn off SYSTEM RESTORE

Run Spybot AND Adaware (links below)

Run a FULL AV Scan too

Only once system is clean and the trojan does NOT return do you re enable system restore.

Also make sure you have DELETEED the files from the Avast chest.

I'd reccomend these 2, run each in turn

ADAWARE fro www.lavasoftusa.com (Free personal version)

also SPYBOT S%26D from www.spybot.org (Again free for home use)

Also worth having in toolbox is CCLEANER from www.ccleaner.com again a free download, and a good general windows tidyup utility.

Running XP

Computer help?virus scanner

The blue screen of death is your answer...Write down the number sequence and then go to Microsoft's website and do a search on the first sequence of numbers. It will point you in the right direction. Most likely, you may simply have corruption in one of your driver files. No need to panic...If all else fails, wipe and reinstall your OS. Your license key will be on the bottom of the unit. Borrow a copy from someone else who has the same version of Windows and use your license key to install and you will be back in business (excluding the frustrating driver update/install portion which you can find at Sony's website)! Personally, if I got a used system, the first thing I'd do is wipe it clean.

My computer is dead!help!?virus

First of all get Norton Anti-virus, it's the best out there and uninstall the others . Second, to recover your system, try this:

1. Boot up with the WinXP CD and at the Setup Screen press the Enter Key.

2. You will be taken to the Windows XP Licensing Agreement. Press F8 to proceed.

3. The next screen gives you the option to do a fresh (clean) install or to repair

What can I do about this?

Ive gotten myself into the worse mess ever. My desktop has gotten a virus, and there is no scanner that will pick it up (avast!, Spybot S%26D, or Spy Eraser). I do not want to format. None of the virus cleaners (vcleaner, avast! Virus cleaner) will clean it. Here are some of the symptoms. If someone can diagnose it, I can get it taken care of myself.

1. My computer BSOD's every so often with a Kernel_Page_Stack_error(or something like that), OR my computer just shuts off at random points.

2. It is very slow.

3. None of the scanners/cleaners will see the virus.

4. There are no suspicious processes running in the task manager.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked for rootkits?

F-Secure BlackLight Rootkit Elimination Technology detects objects that are hidden from users and security tools and offers the user an option to remove them. The main purpose is to fight rootkits and all kinds of malware that use rootkits. The F-Secure BlackLight Rootkit Elimination Technology works by examining the system at a deep level. This enables BlackLight to detect objects that are hidden from the user and security software.

What are the key benefits of F-Secure BlackLight Rootkit Elimination Technology?

F-Secure BlackLight can detect and eliminate active rootkits from the

computer. Traditional antivirus scanners can't detect active rootkits.

That was a message sent to my messenger by my girlfriend's messenger when she tried to log on two days ago. It came with a link to a freeweb.com site. I clicked on the link before investigating the message on the web. Once I found out a trojan was involved I sent her an offline message her computer is infected.

I ran CC cleaner, Advanced WindowsCare, Ad-Aware and Defender. Then ran virus scan with Avast, then Spyware Doctor. 3 trojans found: Win32:Neptunia-KH, Win32:Zorro, and Trojan.Spy.Delf.UC (Tencent)? Attached to AOL Music Now, system restore, and registry, Avast found 2, SW Doc 1 after virus scan (Delf). I'm helping my girlfriend restore her machine, she cannot log on, it says her password is wrong (stolen?) .Anyone else finding out finding out that is isn't 1 type of trojan (YahLover)? My AntiVirus does not start?

i've installed avast antivirus. When i try to open it opens and after a few seconds the entire antivirus application closes. I uninstalled avast and then i installed Kaspersky antivirus. It showed the same problem too.

My AntiVirus does not start?windows

Well, I'm not sure about this - but perhaps you have been infected with a virus that refuses to allow Anti-Virus software to run - I've heard of that happening in the past. Try running an online virus scan, such as TrendMicro's Housecall which can be found here: housecall.trendmicro.com/

My AntiVirus does not start?antivirus download

One thing I think you should do to help yourself is download Microsoft's Malicious Tool Remover. It's a small app and once it's opened and running it'll look for and remove any bad stuff on your system. I would also recommend you getting Spyware Terminator, another free app which will protect your pc in real time. Lastly I'd get CCleaner to daily clean your internet cache so all cookies, especially those nasty MRU's will be done for. It may also help to use a paid subscription antivirus in addition to a free one to further protect you. Hope this helps.
Must be time barred.each year needs fresh

If itis from microsoft Ask help!

( Dont have fire wall ?)
This could be a virus that's switching off your anti-virus.

Start the computer in Safe Mode (Keep tapping F8 as the computer turns on) and run a scan in Safe mode, This will give the anti-virus the chance to kill any virus before it gets a chance to load.

System restore-Question?????

If you have windows XP OS CD you may just be fine position to restoring your computer. The are 2 things I will like to know, the first is do you want to loss all your files or do want your files that was inside the hard disk before. If your answer is yes for the second question, then all you have to do is insert your XP CD from the begining, boot your system, through that, (You ofcourse must have changed the booting to be through CD from your BIOS.

Webcry is a browser hijacker that redirects your web browser when a search engine results are clicked on a search engines web site. The Trojan that loads Webcry is redirecting you to websites like Webcry.com that advertise rogue anti-spyware programs. VirusProtect is a rogue anti-spyware program.

I recommend you remove Webcry and VirusProtect immediately.

my norton internet security is about to expire, looking for a cheaper sollution i questioned what to do earlier. most answered just upgrade norton or buy something similar. However a few suggested avast antivirus and comodo firewall(both free)along with a spyware prog. I have been trying this on an old pc today, i downloaded some files from a p2p network wich i know i have downloaded before on my new pc and avast picked up more than 1 threat including a trojan and worms, norton picked up nothin, is my newer pc likely to be infected??

I just downloaded AVG security, and its saying its out of date?

its saying it expired a hundred and some days ago, but i just got it last night. what do i do? should i get avast instead?

(the reason why i downloaded it is because I had Norton before, and it said my Norton was expired. I came here and asked which security I should use, and I got more votes for AVG and Avast. I picked AVG out of random. I dont know if the reason why it's saying it's out of date is because Norton said it was out of date. Idk!)

what should i do?

I just downloaded AVG security, and its saying its out of date?adware

Ditch norton and let AVG update itself.

I just downloaded AVG security, and its saying its out of date?antivirus scan

Generally when you download an antivirus program, it is already out of date.

The program should attempt to automatically connect to the Internet and download updates. If it is not doing that it may be blocked by your firewall (I did that accidently once).

AVG has very good reviews as free anti virus software. Personally I am a big fan of Avast, that is because Avast using less RAM than AVG, nortons and most other virus checkers, but it is not as reliable as AVG.
just click on the desk top icon you will get a window opening just click on up date that will bring it all up to date for yo u
it should update the first time you run it.
Did you totally un-install your old Norton before installing that AVG. You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict...you MUST uninstall any old anti-virus products.

Random computer question i need help with?

Okay, my computer is now gone slow, AGAIN! I scanned for viruses in normal mode but nothing came up apart from ''last result'' And i just highlighted and removed them all, most of them said error occured. But anyway, I scanned for spyware using Spybot search and destroy in Safe mode, and it got most adwares, spyware and PUPS, and also trojans. And i restarted back into normal mode, Computer was running okay after that, then about 2 days after it;s started to go slow again, I had to renew my AVAST! registration key, so i did, so it should be protected. Should i scan for viruses in safe mode? Will that get all the viruses and trojans from the recovery and pavillion drives? Thanks!

You may not have enough ram, did you defrag? running too many programs, there alot of thing that will slow down your pc. Not just checking for a virus.

IMPORTANT Rootkit Problem... URGENT !!?

My oncle works in construcion as an independent and he needs his computer to take care of the administration (invoices...). Now he cannot use it because of that problem. He doesn't know nothing about computer that's why he relies on me.

http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm143...

As you can see on the picture (warning from Avast), the virus is an .exe that is located on the 'System32' folder.

I tried to delete it with Avast but the computer shut down. Of course I also tried to find the zufabu.exe by myself, but nothing I could find with that name in the folder 'system32'.

Wait... an .exe in 'system32' that is hidden ?? sCaRy........

What could I do ?

I don't know much about that kind of problem but I told him not to connect his computer to the Internet and if possible not using his computer at all until I find a solution.

Turn off System Restore (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405 ) Restart in safe mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.s... ) run the scan and delete it from there.

You may have to download HijackThis (http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Hija... ) and post it in a tech forum like this one (http://www.techsupportforum.com/security... ) and await answers, or email me and I can see what I can find.

Two virus protection programs?

I installed Avast and was about to install AVG, when AVG popped up with a warning.

"It is not advisable to have more then one antivirus product running on the same computer."

I've had both of these programs installed at the same time before, but never installed Avast first. Is this message something to be concerned about and should i just stick with the one antivirus program? Or is there no reason I shouldn't be able to run both at the same time. In terms of resources for my computer, I'm set.

Two virus protection programs?anti virus scan

this is easy to do, install avg first then proceed to installing Avast, but i heard that avast do not support realtime protection.

i also recommend Avira Antivira because i have comodo firewall 3, avg free, avira antivira, spybot search and destroy and as far as catching viruses goes, avira caught 10/10 of all the viruses in my cousin's virus infested computer while avg only caught 1 out of 100 viruses. literally

avg free is my backup antivirus program

I think good?

I went over to a wesite about (Avast) thay say thankfully with avast it's a saver to all, so i been using it so far i have no problems, as log as had it so far it found 2 visrus or trojans how do i know what a viruse and a trojan is i don't know so far, but it found 2 so far and it recommended me to move it right away to the virus chest i thank so far it's good, so when i get ready to reformat it can i go to the chest and delete it to make very sure that it's goen.

I think good?anti virus software

There is no reason to keep files in the vault that long. As soon as you know that your system is still running properly without the quarantined files, it is okay to empty the vault.

I let Avast delete the files right away and do not bother with the vault.

Norton????HELP???

ok i uninstalled norton off of my computer. I downloaded avast instead. What i want to know is do i get rid of yahoo online protection too? i see that avast don'st have a firewall or dose it? and i also have liveupdate(symantec corporation) get rid of that too? Just wondering because i know running two anti viruses at the same time can conflict. Please can someone help me that knows.

Hi Cathy

Keeping two or more antivirus in a computer have no use and also it reduces the performance of the computer.

So unistall the second antivirus program and keep one which serves you excellent.

I recommend you can use Norton or Kaspersky

Removed viruses, computer wont boot to desktop, Cant get into bios?

Hi people,

Found heaps of win32 viruses in my girlfriends computer. (Using Avast). Couldn't repair any of the files so I deleted them. (yes, i shouldnt have, kicking myself allready).

Restarted comp and now it boots to login screen. If i press ok to go in it just logs off and goes back to the same screen.

Avast does popup when re-starting saying that running avset.exe would be dangerous. Either pressing yes or no to run program doesnt change anything. Still can't log in.

I cant get into the bios to change the boot order, tried F2, DEL, ESC (if i could get to change boot order, my recovery cd would work)

F8 does bring up the Safe mode, etc, screen but Ive tried running all and no difference.

ANY SUGGESTIONS??

1. Take drive out an run it as another drive on another computer.?

2. Try and get a startup disk for dos?

3. Some sort of program for a USB drive to try and boot up that way?

Thats all I can think of... Thanks guy/girls

Are these false warning from my 'virus' scanner?

There is a screen shot (see url) of what comes up. They come up about 18-20 at a time-- then they stop. If i close them out, they come back again. My virus scanner is avast! and when it does this, the scanner isn't running. In outlook i had 400-600 emails, most were not spam--but some were. Now they are totally gone except for about 60. However, none of the ones that were deleted match the subjects that these windows say.

I cannot perform system restore either.

Is there a program I should try to remove it? avast! apparently isnt catching it. I've run a virus scan over every drive in my computer.

Is my computer and Internet protected with the softwares I have? I have...?

Is my internet and computer safe from virus, worms, spyware, etc?

I have Avast! 4 Home Edition. This is my antivirus and it comes with Web Shield which monitors internet activity.

I also have Comodo Firewall. This is well...my firewall.

I also have Ad-aware (Latest Free Version). This is to scan for spyware, malware, etc.

Up next I have Spyware Blaster. Its like a backup firewall. It protects my computer from spyware.

Lastly I have CCleaner and Advanced Windows Care V2. They are just registry cleaners, system optimization, and to speed up my PC.

All these softwares are free versions. I don't want to pay, but i try getting the best free softwares to protect my computer. Are these good enough? Is there anything better? My computer doesn't have a lot of memory. 224 MB of RAM. I heard Avast, Comodo, Ad-aware are one of the best free softwares out there.

I run anti virus and spyware scans ATLEAST 3 times a week.

So the main question; is my computer safe?

How to remove this virus???antivirus programs

it ain't a virus. its either a system folder from any machine that it gets plugged into (system volume info or something like that or .trashes or recycled or whatever) or it's spyware and you would need a spyware scanner to get rid of it (and avast ain't one of them)

I know many people that got that virus use system restore on your computer and put it back about 3 weeks.
Use ZoneAlarm security suite. It is the best to keep away your comp from Viruses, Spywares, Trojans etc....

Whenever i am working on firefox, some ad-site pops up in an IE browser window, also my PC makes some clicking noises every couple of minutes

what i did:

1. i fully upgraded my avast anti-virus software and superantispyware

2. i completely cleaned my registry using CCleaner, i also deleted temporary internet files, cookies etc.

3. in IE i went to tools-%26gt;popup blocker settings and turned it on,

i also went to IE options-%26gt;privacy and blocked all cookies

4. i restarted and ran a boot-time avast scan, then when it was done, i also scanned with superantispyware

5. despite all this, when i went to pop-up blocker settings, i foun d that by default a couple of things like www.adserver.com and www3.adserver.com etc. are still there in 'allowed sites' list even though i had removed them before i shut-down

Does McAfee give you a virus so you have to buy the entire version?

I just got some info that was disconscerning, someone said that McAfee Internet security, the trial edition that are on new computers actually will install a virus if you let it expire, making you think you caught a virus from the internet, but you actually got it from the McAfee program, has anyone else heard this? I have Avast running right now which is a free download and Norton security is also on my computer but that one expires in 44 days. Is McAfee a bad virus program and should I keep Norton and buy the full version before it expires and everyone is raving about Avast, is it good enough to get rid of both Norton and McAfee and protect my computer?

Does McAfee give you a virus so you have to buy the entire version?antivirus scan

I highly doubt McAfee gives you a virus intentionally to make you buy the entire program.

I had a similar problem. I wanted "additional security" on my computer so I install Norton and McAfee. Then my computer was acting funny and wouldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support and they explained that for some reason those two programs couldn't both be installed at the same time. Somehow they conflicted with each other.

I uninstalled McAfee and just left Norton. I haven't had any trouble since.

Virus in my pc?

i have no internet connection. i had avast antivirus in my pc and it was fully updated. i brought this pen drive which had a virus (i did not know then). since then fr 4 days whichever folder i opened, it showed, 'the computer has performean illegal function." but nothing happened.

then i uninstalled avast and installed avira antivirus. it deleted 1078 viruses. but then all the folders that i had opened in the last 4 days had vanished.

they do exist as when i scan the disk, the antivirus scans those folders but still they remain invisible. i tried searching but they did not turn up.

then i installed kaspersky but it failed to do anything

also i cant do 'show hidden folders' as that oftion is also not there. that should be on tools or view but its not there. even my computer literate friend is clueless.

what should i do?? i cant format the pc as it has lots of study material...

Computer keeps freezing-virus?

I have a gateway laptop that I got about 2 years ago. For the last few days it keeps freezing. It'll go for about a 30 seconds to a minute of being normal, then it freezes for about ten seconds then goes back to normal and it just keeps doing that. It has done this in the past and I usually restart it and then it's fine. But this time it keeps doing it even when I restart it. I have spysweeper and avast! scanner. But the spysweeper hasn't been updated in like a year and the avast!, when I scan with it it says there are like 800 files that it can't scan because they're password protected. I tried doing the microsoft system restore or whatever it's called where you revert your computer back to an earlier date. This has worked in the past too but now it keeps saying it can't revert back. I probably have a virus, right?

you probably do. id suggest reformatting your computer. what reformatting does is it completely deletes everything off your computer and wipes it clean. this is the most effective solution for anything. you should save all the stuff you want to keep to disc and then reinstall it all after.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 v16.0.1449

Which antivirus is better?aurora

I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!

I agree...AVG Anti-Virus is pure crap!

While Avast is a very good free program, it is basically just an anti-virus only (with some anti-spyware capabilities).

Your Trend is a complete internet security suite including a Firewall and much more:

http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/per...

There really is no comparison...your version of Trend Micro offers a lot more.

Which antivirus is better?download

I have used Avast to remove a virus that McAfee was unable to detect. They are a good solution for the price but Trend Micro is a better overall solution. Looks like Norton has some issues related to Windows XP SP3 so steer clear until Microsoft and Norton battle this one out. If you need the best protection then ESET has the competition beat hands down - they detect more virus' than any other solution on the market.
Actually a FREE "Anti-Vir" is a FRAUD....

If you want it you will end up getting Lots of Virus...

It won't protect your PC even 50% of what you are you expecting from an "Anti-Vir" tho!!!

What is the best(professionally)way to clean an infected computer at home?

some one out there know the best way to clean a computer from spyware/malware/adware/virus; step by step? Ok well i have; Avast, Antivir Pe classic, Spyware Terminator, Adware 2007 wich i dont use anymore, and Comodo firewall pro. I understand that i only have to have one anti-virus program which i didnt know and one firewall. So what shoul i do ??what should i delete and how?and what should i keep?

What is the best(professionally)way to clean an infected computer at home?auto protect

Best way to clean a machine is to reinstall Windows from scratch.

What is the best(professionally)way to clean an infected computer at home?downloads

put your documents dekstop, pictures videos music anything you need and that you can't recover. (make sure you dont get stuff that is infected) and put it all in dvd's(cd's flash drive etc)

and re-install windows from scratch. after its installed simply place your stuff in the appropiate areas like your pics my pictures etc.

:]
the best way clean your computer(if u have windows xp/vista) from bugs is:

1: restart your computer

2: when windows starts to load there is key that tells you press either F11 or F12(can't remember) for boot menu.

3: you can clean your computer from there and it should take care of the problem.

If not, try to buy McAfee and it will stop spyware, malware, and viruses going into your computer. It may cost more, but it will guarantee to stop viruses.
i suggest used kaspersky internet security 30 days trial it will remove all the virus from your computer. Trust me. The best anti virus and spyware. download it here http://www.kaspersky.com/trials then click on free internet security download thats only for 30 days trial good luck. Install it to your pc. Is Frostwire really safe to download?

I know its been asked before but I get send to download.com or whatever and When the small window opens to begin the download my Avira Antivirus and Avast as well jump right on it saying its unsafe and has infected files

Is Frostwire really safe to download?avast

It's perfect safe, I have Avast and had no problem dowloading it any of the times I have done so.

Is Frostwire really safe to download?ducati

it depends on what you are downloading. u gonna have to scan what you are downloading.
The same goes for any P2P.

If you enjoy file sharing programs, LimeWire isn't a bad idea. If, however, you don't want other individuals to have access to your files, LimeWire is a truly bad idea. Not only will it slow your personal computer down, it will also destroy any meaningful internet experience that you want to have because your bandwidth will constantly be in demand by other LimeWire users downloading the files that you have posted. Some users have reported having the bulk of their allowable bandwidth consumed all day everyday by other LimeWire users.

LimeWire As a Security Risk

Using LimeWire and allowing others to connect to your computer presents a security risk to you. In order to use a filesharing network like LimeWire, you have to disable many of your defenses that protect you from other users. While others are not supposed to be able to see the information you don't post directly, crafty users will have no trouble accessing any material they want on your machine. From personal files to password and credit card information, it's all very available once you become a part of LimeWire. Whether you have a firewall on your computer or not, your security is at risk with a service like LimeWire. Indeed, one of the features LimeWire advertises on their own site is how easy it is to get through the firewalls of other users. More than any other filesharing program, though, LimeWire is particularly dangerous, as there are several security flaws within the network. You don't have to be a hacker to grab someone's financial data from the service, and with the rates of identity theft on the rise, it's best to protect yourself at all costs.

I need some help on computer security?

i know if you have to much anti stuff it will slow down your computer so i need to know which one to keep and which one to delete heres my list of anti virus and spyware

trend micro anti-spyware

avg

avast

TuneUp Utilities 2007

spybot

ad-aware 2007

free window register repair

RegScrubXP

please help me

I need some help on computer security?bmw

you have avast and avg that are two Antivirus programs.

If I were you I would get rid of one of them for its not good to have two antivirus programs at the same time..

I would also be careful with any register cleaner for it can really screw up your computer if not used right..

Everything else to me anyhow looks fine. Unless your running the teatimer in spybot for it might conflict with Trend Micro antispy if your running the protection on the trend micro..

I need some help on computer security?free adware remover

ok, i suggest you keep Trend Micro Anti-Spyware (if it's a full retail version), AVG(which one antivirius?) if it is the keep that and delete Avast, delete Spybot, Ad-aware 2007, delete free window register repair, TuneUp Ultilities 2007 and RegScrubXp and if you want to get a powerful and free Registry program i prefer: Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal which you can download it off Download.com :)
you must remove all of them cause with all of them on your computer it can corrupt and make anti-virus software not fuction properly here is what i recomend

trend micro pc-cillin 2007

spysweeper original

both can be found on www.dowload.com owned by c-net a very reputable source those two will work together perfectly and keep your computer clean have used both for 2 years trend-micro is the best in the firewall and virus catagory and spysweeper is a legend in anti-spyware

Why am I unable to open my hard drive by double clicking on them instead of opening them by right cl

A few days ago, many viruses affected my PC. So I scanned my PC with Avast 4.7 Home. Viruses were found and deleted. Most of them were windows files. Now the problem is that whenever I double click on any Hard Drive, it gives an error:

"Windos canot find 'copy.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

But I am able to open by right clicking and then clicking on open. Also, on when right clicking on drive icon, Autoplay appears on list.

Help me. What should I do? I have Genuine Win XP Home CD.

Why am I unable to open my hard drive by double clicking on them instead of opening them by right click ?computer repair

We have the same problem friend.

When I turn on my computer, there is a box that pops up with softwrap file error one. What does this

Before this happened, I turned on my computer and there was an ad from and anitvirus program wanting me to buy their product. Since then pop-ups have been coming from all over the place thru my pop-up blocker. I downloaded avast virus protection, but my computer is still freezing up at times, help!!!

When I turn on my computer, there is a box that pops up with softwrap file error one. What does this mean?computer security

Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything. This because the program you download can get infected.

To reformat your hdd is always the last option.

Disable "System Restore" for Windows Me and XP, then restart your PC to clean your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc.

Now restart in safe mode.

To get in safe mode Press "F8" upon bootup.

Select "Safe mode with Networking".

Go to Start 鈥?Run - type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Enter(ok).

Do a full system scan. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.

When that scan does not find anything you reboot again in safe mode with network.

Go to Start 鈥?Run 鈥?type iexplore http://www.ewido.net/en/ Enter(ok).

Why do 75% of people who use YA think they know 100% of everything?

Ever asked a question on pc's and had loads of different answers all argueing with each other?

Lets clarify it.

heres my 2 cents in brief

AVAST is a good virus scanner, but it is catagorically not as effective as mcafee or norton, people who dislike norton or mcafee are just people who's pc were never good enough to run them well. Norton NOD32 is recognised globally as the best virus scanning program (it was the only virus scanner to date to have had solutions to ALL KNOWN virus' upon its release).

Ram does make your pc a little faster and by a little i mean you shave a few seconds in running.

A better processor costs more but increases speed considerably.

People only always say ram because they dont know how to change processors.

Despite what I say here, people will still think they are computer genius', despite the fact that a few of us on here actually are fully qualified pc engineers, rather than 'think they know it alls'

Follow YA if you want to blow your pc up

Why do 75% of people who use YA think they know 100% of everything?computer virus

I hate it when that happens, it decreases the quality of the yahoo answers experience :( it is ignorant people who do this, they obviously have not researched their answer or don't know what they're talking about, but they don't care, they just answer questions regardless of their knowledge of the subject, perhaps to give their account more publicity or to get more points. I think there should be some kind of system where the asker can rate an answer as 'irrelevant' or 'useless' so as to remove the points from that answerer or perhaps even take points off of them.

Norton? sould it stay or should it go now???!!!?

my norton xpires in 2 days so i decided to uninstall it before but i can't remove it from my laptop!! it came with my pc and i don't want to renew it . how can i get rid of it? P.S. i downloaded spybot and avast. would that be enough protection? of course i have win.defender but i can't see myself renewing norton.PLZ HELP!!!

Norton? sould it stay or should it go now???!!!?computers

Usually back when i had Norton like 5 years ago, usually what i do is go in safe mode by pressing f8 when you boot the computer, and uninstall from there. Usually when i try to get rid of Norton, my OS goes with it.

Norton? sould it stay or should it go now???!!!?hijack this

Ok, heres the deal with Norton:

Norton takes up lost of ram while running and unless you constantly download or share files, you probably do not need a program that is running constantly such as Norton. If you feel that you do need Norton, uninstall it and buy the Norton Internet Security Package. This will not take up as much ram and is much cheaper.

An alternative for Norton is AdAware SE Personal. This is great for people who use their computers to do basic tasks. It does not run unless launched and therefore does not constantly take up ram.

What is the BEST firewall/protection for your computer?

Avast! or zone alarm security suite? good?

What is the BEST firewall/protection for your computer?downloads

Norton Internet Security

What is the BEST firewall/protection for your computer?house call

deep freeze
ZoneAlarm.
DO NOT GET NORTON, it may be good but it is a hog. I would get avast free edition for antivirus, zonealarm firewall (also free) and ad-aware for spyware.. Or zone alarm suite which has everything in one av/spyware/firwall (but it is not free) I personally use onecare which is perfect for me since it has everything including backup (which saved me) (and its cheap, 3 comps $50). And Windows firewall is NOT fine alone.
plain old windows firewall id the best
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Good Luck !!!
I would say Windows Live Onecare

http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-ca/d...
Now you can get AOL for free. When you do that, click on SECURITY, and download McAfee for free. Also the firewall.

How many files does windows xp shold have approximatly ?

I scanned my os by avast antivirus. scanning report said I have more than 1000,000 files(compared to less than 300,000 when xp first installed) . I only have 13 applications installed. I never download files on os drive. I keep the drive clean, delete kokies %26 temp files

How many files does windows xp shold have approximatly ?firewall

Unfortunately, most programs (including WindowsXP) today create temporary files as they work on your computer. This includes numerous temp files every time a particular program may update itself. While there is no preset number, you should expect around 500,000 for a fully installed XP SP2 system before you add any other programs or windows patches. Over a million sounds like a lot, but in reality, really isn't. My PC has close to 4,000,000 after every virus scan... and that includes photos, music, everything.

How many files does windows xp shold have approximatly ?husqvarna

There will not be an exact count of system files for Windows XP service packs, installed options and specific drivers for your system will cause variances in any file count.

Your laptop is a dual core, so it's quite current and the changes you make will increase boot-up as work performance:

What you can do is one of the options below or all of them, the impact of each of them in performance is prioritized accordingly for you ;- ):

1) If possible start with re-install it with XP pro, which handle the internal memory better and not installing all the media crap you won't use.

2) Add additional internal memory (1 or 2 GB).

3) Add more memory to the video card.

Good luck and have fun

VBS Malware. My son opened an email and the pc has this virus?

Adaware and Avast removes it but it keeps coming back everytime the pc is booted. I can get around okay on the pc but I'll need a lot of detail in order to get rid of this virus if it's possible for me to even do it. Can someone please help me with it ?

VBS Malware. My son opened an email and the pc has this virus?free antivirus

If you run XP, you will most likely need to turn off system restore. Because of the way XP works, the restore directory is usually not touched by antivirus/anti-adware programs. That makes it a haven for malware. Once you do that, I suggest going to an online anti-virus site (see sources for a good one) and letting it do a full scan of your system. You will most likely need to reinstall your anti-virus program, because, to be honest, it sure sounds like yours isn't working. If you don't have one, you can always get AVG anti-virus, which is free for home use. Link is also in sources below.

Sounds to me like a settings problem ... would help if you included this in your questions it would save you ton's of time. Here is a hint google or yahoo search the error and I bet you'll find the solution if it's a standard error like then you have no connection and it comes up with a blank page I don't think it's the install. You can just re-install it without removing it to update and install any missing files.

I don't know about reinstalling 6. I use 7 . You can download it and see if that helps. Mine works pretty good. I also use Fire Fox and Avant.

CommonName General Description:

CommonName is an adware program that installs as a toolbar. CommonName is associated with commonname.com and is a variant of the CNBabe / BabeIE / BabeIE2 / CNMib family of parasites. CommonName was originally created to allow a user to enter a keyword into the browser and be directed to CommonName client websites, but the application has gradually mutated into adware. The CommonName toolbar will pop up advertisements on your computer, based on your web history. It will also hijack your web searches, and may constantly change your homepage to that of one of its affiliates. CommonName may also corrupt the Winsock LSP chain, drastically slowing down (or disabling) your Internet connection. Additionally, this application may produce system instability and trigger runtime errors in Internet Explorer. CommonName is bundled with many free programs, including Grokster and iMesh.

AVG is best for the price. Norton is next to useless. SuperAntiSpyware is the best anti-spyware/adware.

AVG is the best
AVG is free. But, Norton is based in over 30 countries and they catch most things before they even get close to you.
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co...
I have had them all, I think Norton was the best but I wouldn't recommend just an anti virus, I would get the internet security that way you get everything.
If I could afford to buy a Mac then I would for sure as one wouldn't have to worry overly about antivirus programs.

I stick to McAfee - but the bought version, not the free trial - expensive but seems to do the "trick" .

Just my opinion

What is the best anti virus/spyware software?

I've tried a variety over the years, from mcafee, norton, avast, I'm no using zone alarm, I find it hard to find a protection prog, that doesn't run my processor so high, it seems they all love to bog down my pc execpt for zone alarm. Yet it doesn't seem to block out the bad guys, I also use a combo of adaware, spybot, registry mechanic, even yahoo anti-spy but it doesn't stop anything.
