Just installed a DVD ROM drive but can't play movies.?

Computer says we need a DVD decoder (MPEG-2 decoder). Anyone know where we can get one for free? Went to one site but avast indicated that site had a Trojan Horse virus. The DVD drive came with Nero 7 Essentials but was only a 30 day trial. Is that possibly why it worked at one time but doesn't any more?

Download klite codec pack with free media player classic. This is free and will play dvd movies as well as any other downloaded moveis. When installing choose the "lots of stuff" option and select use media player classic as the default player. http://www.snapdrive.net/files/266187/KL...

the drive also should have come with another CD that had the DVD software on it. Intervideo Windvd or Cyberlink PowerDVD
Well it confused me when you said you JUST installed the drive but then later said it used to work.
