Startups include, Avast, Zone Alarm, Spy Terminator, Free space on hard drive 40%, I have defraged, I've run CCleaner, I've run Registry Mechanic, I've run Advacned WindowCare...Is it really the RAM? thank you!
It takes about 10 min. for PC to boot till the time I can access the internet..Why so slow. XP, 1.5Ghz 256RAm?
You've either got too many things starting up, your HDD is pooched or you've got a runaway process.
Do an MSCONFIG and remove everything you don't need. For your spyware %26 virus checkers, don't have them do a startup scan as this takes precious time to complete. If that doesn't work, do a scandisk and see if there's a problem with your HDD. I doubt that's it but you can never be too careful.
The other possiblity is your system might be underpowered for what you have loaded. I would assume this slowdown is a recent phenomenon? If not you need more memory and possibly a faster CPU.

i have myself 566MHz speed system with 256MB and 40GB HDD. and it takes two to three minutes to startup-Windows OS. i would suggest do msconfig remove everything beside AV%26Firewall also do defrag HDD. also remove any games or unwanted program that you do not use any more.
First RAM, then the CPU.
