Computer trouble!?

There are two shortcuts on my desktop that contain no data on them and have a blank icon. They are ugly and I want to delete them but when i try a window comes up saying that it cant delete the file because its being used by another person or program! Ive tried restarting my computer it didnt help.

Also all of my text files come up as a doc. file but have the word pad logo and when I open them up it comes on wordpad. Not microsoft word which is operating normal. Can someone tell me how to fix these problems?

PS : I have Trend Micro PC client and Avast! on my computer.

on the free trials file you are going to have to call the 800 number and get a person on the phone and demand that they remove it.

usually the guy will tell you to turn off the pc and restart and it will be gone,he might however tell you to send some money.at that point I would tell him I want his name and number to give to the FBI for hacking your PC I had a woman coming up on my pc at a job I was working at and I called the number and told the guy e better remove the mess from the pc and he did it.
First off what are the shortcuts on the desk top? It could be OS files which you do not want to delete. How they got to the desktop with shortcuts....very strange. Find out what they are. Right click go to properties and see what it says about what they are. Do other people use that PC? Are their multiple user accounts set up on that system? You might want to check into that. If it's being used by another...then there you have your answer. The other user might have left that document open and that's why it's telling you that you can't delete. (This is likely the issue here)
