Yes, Avast! is definitely the best free anti-virus at present. It has a very strong real time shield (the strongest in fact), it updates daily and is light (though not as much as AVG) on system resources. Keep using it!

I have switched to Ubuntu Linux for the last couple of months and I practically don't need an anti-virus. I had Avast! Home Edition too in my Windows XP, and AVG before that! You can find some other good free anti-viruses here:

AVG is one of the best and free antivirus program. They give the commercial version and a free version.
I too have the same Avast AV for a few years since..I have never had any outage due to a virus attack...I like its for its GUI, Less memory, mail scanner, regular n easy updates, logging and most of its features..Its also easy to use n free for home use...

I recommend it n install in all my friends PC to protect t PC..
