I have 6 megs of broadband internet and its slow?

its broadband or cable internet and its 6megs download and 270kbps upload ok when i first got it it was pretty fast now it keeps getting slower and slower y i have avast antivirus i no i dont have a virus and xp pro is a new installation i have XP Pro SP2 and all updates i run my speed test at speakeasy and its fine it says like 6,212 give or take lol but its still slow and like downloading pages why

Make sure no one is sharing your connection from your router. If people are stealing and downloading, that decreases the bandwidth for you to use. If you're downloading, that decreases your bandwidth as well. Every once in a while, refresh your router. And as mentioned before, make sure there's no spyware.

Secondly, if you're using IE, switch to Firefox and tweak it in the following manner:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
