Adaware Se, Spybot Search and destroy combine to work well, dont rely on just one. AVG Free edition is also a very good antivirus solution , especially free!

if you to www.download.com you can find a program called AVG, its a free download. it works great for that stuff!
Yahoo has a free Norton Spyware Scan. You might have to download the tool bar. I just scan from time to time and it's caught a few things I had to delete.
Ad Aware and Spy Bot Search and Destroy are great, but also use HiJack this to check unwanted items in your registry.
