Whats the best way to speed up my computer?

I have a computer that runs at 2ghz, 512mb of ram (131mb free while running Firefox), 3.6GB of free space on my main hard drive. Everything seems to very slow, I know like a year or so ago it used to go a quiet a bit faster. There is a webcam site I am trying to use, but my webcam freezes when I go to it (I've tried the same webcam on my dads computer that is running on the same internet and it works). But the webcam is not all that goes slow, it is everything. I've ran an AVG Virus Scan and avast! Virus scan, I run these scans and a spyware scan about once a week.

P.S. The webcam works on other websites, but it freezes on that one (the website uses Macromedia Flash a lot.)

remove any programs you dont use anymore then download, install, update and run these...

then boot into safe mode (google it if you dont know how) and run Disk Defragmenter
