What's going on with my cable?

I have cable internet (comcast) and, of course, it advertises those blazing hot speeds of up to 8mbs download speed. But it seems to me it's been running subpar for quite awhile. So I started accessing some those speed tests, such as speedtest.net etc. The results vary some from test to test but the fastest download I ever tested at was about 3mbs and most tests indicated about 1.5mbs.

I've got avast anti-virus and have run ad-aware and spybot search and destroy. Anybody have any ideas why I'm basically getting DSL speed on a cable connection?

The best way to check your speed in not with a internet based speed check. I recommend that you dial into your modem by typing its IP address into your browsers address bar, you'll need to get this information from either Comcast or your modem manufacturer. Once you get in, it will show you the true connection you have.

When was the last time you cleaned out your temporary internet files, run a disk cleanup or did a disk defrag?

Contact Comcast, maybe some of the nasty weather in the Midwest and East coast is another provider issue.

Try replacing your ethernet card , and see if that helps.

check to ensure spyware is completely removed (spybot + adaware +hiJackthis)
